McGeary takes third on floor at state, finishes high school career seventh-best score in Class A

Benson / Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg’s Libby McGeary closed out her gymnastics career on a high note. She earned a spot on the podium with a third-place finish on the floor and took seventh-place in the all around competition at the Class A individual state meet on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Roy Wilkins Auditorium.

The senior scored 9.525 on the floor exercise to earn third place, just .05 away from earning runner-up.

In her fourth consecutive state bid, McGeary competed all-around, finishing seventh out of 24 gymnasts with a total of 36.975. She added a personal-best 9.475 on vault, which was good for 12th out of 48 gymnasts, and she recorded an 8.875 on the uneven parallel bars, which was good for 13th.

“Bars were good and the vault was my highest score I’ve gotten,” McGeary told the West Central Tribune of her performance.

McGeary placed 16th on the beam with a 9.1.
