McGeary wins all-around and BKMS are runners-up at West Central Championships

The Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Fighting Braves gymnastics team finished runner-up at the West Central Conference meet Friday, Feb. 10, in Long Prairie. Melrose claimed the title with 142.55 points while the Fighting Braves finished second with 137.3.

Senior Libby McGeary took first in the all around competition with a 37.05. She took first on the vault with a 9.45, first on the beam with a 9.25, second on the bars with a 9.0 and another second-place finish on the floor with a 9.35.

“Many of our team members placed individually in events,” BKMS coach Kathy Ahrndt said.

Gwen Wilcox earned fifth in the all around competition with a combined score of 33.9. She placed fourth on the beam with an 8.9 and fifth on the bars with an 8.1. She also scored an 8.5 on the vault and tied for eighth on the floor with an 8.4.

Olivia Noble finished third overall on the vault with a 9.25.

Sophie Hilleren took seventh on the floor with an 8.5 while Elise Duncan tied for seventh on the bars with a 7.85.

McGeary and Wilcox earned all-conference honors while Sophie Hilleren was named honorable mention.
