Mitchell Eugene Boone was born January 6, 1945, the son of Wilbur and Myrtle (Dalum) Boone at the Stevens County Hospital in Morris, Minnesota. He was baptized at the Stevens County Hospital, and lived with his family near Hoffman, Minnesota until 1952 when the family moved to a farm north of Benson. Mick was confirmed in 1960 by the Rev. Robert Olson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson and graduated from Benson High School in 1963.

October 9, 1965, Mick was united in marriage to Marlys Ruth Dokken at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson by Rev. Melvin Sucher. Together, they moved into their current home where they have resided for 57 years. They were blessed with three daughters, three sons-in-law, eight grandchildren, 60 years of love and 57 years of marriage.

Mick served in the National Guard from 1963-1969. He worked for Lorenz Manufacturing, Tyler Industries and farmed with his father. In 1971, he began his career of 40 years with Swift Coop Oil Company which became Glacial Plains Cooperative managing the Agronomy Department for 35 years and hauling grain until retirement in 2011.

Mick was very involved with church, school, and community activities in Benson. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 71 years where he proudly served on the church council, as a youth advisor, usher, and enjoyed being a part of men’s group. He volunteered with the Benson Lions Club, served as a Hospice volunteer and many other civic activities. Mick and Marlys loved the outdoors especially biking and walking. Together, the Boones were avid swimmers year around at the Benson pools. Mick treasured visiting with friends, playing cards, dominoes, and working on puzzles. Mick also enjoyed woodworking, cruising, and “tinkering” in his garage.

Mick never waivered from his loyalty to his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Mick was extremely proud of his family taking such pride in cheering them on at their many activities and sporting events. Mick will be remembered for his integrity, huge heart, gentle soul, big hugs, warm smile, and many acts of kindness that he so unselfishly blessed the world with. He was peacefully called to his Eternal Home on Monday, April 17, 2023, at the age of 78 years, three months, and 11 days.
