Sade O. Ladd, age 102, of Starbuck, MN, and formerly of Benson

Sade O. Ladd, age 102, of Starbuck, MN, and formerly of Benson, MN, died Thursday, November 20, 2014, at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck.  Private family funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 23, with Rev. Rebecca Worner officiating.  Interment was in the Benson City Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.
Sade Ladd died Thursday morning, November 20th, at Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, MN.  She was born January 10, 1912 in Sleepy Eye, MN to Hannah (Wandersee) and William Lange.  Sade grew up in Sleepy Eye and attended Sleepy Eye High High School.  She was united in marriage to Jasper Arthur Ladd on July 29, 1932 in Emmitsburg, Iowa.

Darl Wayne Cleland, 77, of Glenwood

Darl Wayne Cleland, 77, of Glenwood, passed away at the St. Cloud Hospital, Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, surrounded by family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. at Starbuck Community Center, 307 East 5th St, Starbuck, Minnesota.  Pastor Becky Worner of Shalom Community Lutheran Church will officiate the service. A private burial will be held at a later date.
He was born in Fonda, Iowa, to Raymond and Lyra Cleland. The family moved to a farm near Danvers in 1951. He graduated from Benson High School in 1956, married in 1958 and had four children. He farmed near Danvers until 1965, when the family moved to Hoffman.
Darl worked as a salesman for Occo Feeds for many years before operating Cleland’s Meet N Eat in Hoffman. After moving to Glenwood in 1982, he began working for Osborne Industries until retiring in 2007.

Esther Nelson, age 94, formerly of Benson, died Sunday, November 16th, in Minneapolis.  Funeral services will be held Friday, November 21st at 11:00AM, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson, with Pastor Art Wiese officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.  Burial will follow at the Benson City Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Zniewski Funeral Home- Benson.

Rudolph (Rudy) O. Halverson, 49, of Willmar

Rudolph (Rudy) O. Halverson, 49, of Willmar, Minnesota  died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar.
Rudy’s graveside burial service was held at the St. Malachy’s Catholic Cemetery in Clontarf, Monday, Nov. 10 at 10:30 a.m.
Rudy O. Halverson was born  August 25, 1965, in Willmar the son of Rudolph and Maryanne (Nelson) Halverson.   He grew up in Benson and graduated from Benson High School and then attended Willmar Vo-Tech.  Rudy was employed as a painter for several area businesses & helped friends with their painting businesses as well. In his younger years, he loved traveling & telling stories!
He enjoyed camping, playing dominos, cards, his canine companions (Shadow-black lab & Buck-yellow lab) and being with his friends. He lived in Arizona & California, until moving back to Minnesota & enjoyed more camping & painting jobs! One job he took proud of, was at Diamond Vogel in downtown Willmar.

Shelby J. Larson, 83 of Benson

Shelby J. Larson, 83 of Benson, died Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.  Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2014 at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church in Benson.  Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. Thursday at the church and for one hour prior to the service.  Funeral arrangement are with the West Central Cremation Service.  www.hafh.org
 
Shelby Jerome Larson was born on May 26, 1931 in Benson, the son of Louie and Olivia (Rear) Larson.  He grew up on the family farm in Swenoda Township where he attended country grade school in District # 91.  On January 10, 1954, Shelby was united in marriage to Lois Reinhart at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Watson.  They made their home in Minneapolis and later Maple Grove where he was self-employed installing ceramic tile.  In 1972, they bought the family farm and returned to Benson where he farmed and installed tile, retiring in 2010.

Benson-Rebecca Paulsrud, 61, of Benson, died on Monday, November 10, 2014, at the St. Cloud Hospital.  A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 14, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, November 13th at the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson and also for one hour prior to the service at the church.  Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Phyllis Dorothy Petrick, 93, Benson

Phyllis Dorothy Petrick, 93, died Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Golden Living Center – Meadow Lane in Benson, Minnesota.  
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 23, 2014, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holloway with Rev. Don Klatt officiating.  Visitation was from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson with a prayer service at 7 p.m.  Visitation continued for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.   
Phyllis Dorothy Petrick was born June 2, 1921, in Milbank, South Dakota, the daughter of Fred and Amelia (Adler) Schmidt.  She graduated from Appleton High School.

Jay B. Rist, age 49, of Waite Park, formerly of Benson

Jay B. Rist, age 49, of Waite Park, MN, died Thursday, October 30, 2014 at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 16th at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Saint Cloud.  Visitation will be an hour prior to the service.  Pastor Dee Pederson will officiate.  Burial will be at a later date.
Jay was born May 19, 1965 in Benson, Minnesota to Ted and Eloise Rist.  He graduated from Benson High School.  He earned a certificate in automotive mechanics from St. Cloud Vo-Tech and worked in the automotive industry for several years with the majority of his career at Foreign Auto Service.
Jay enjoyed spending time with his family, watching NASCAR and sports, caring for pets, working on his bikes and casual walks around the pond with his music.  He was a kind, quiet person with a generous heart and a hug for everyone.

Helen Riley, 79, of Murdock

Helen Riley, 79, of Murdock and owner of Riley Bus Service died on Saturday, November 8th at her home in Murdock.  Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, November 13th, at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Murdock with Fr. Jeremy Kucera officiating.  Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, 5 to 7 PM, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the parish prayer service at 5:45 PM.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to Mass on Thursday morning.  Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson is handling the arrangements.  www.zniewskifuneralhome.com
Helen Anne Riley was born September 6, 1935, at Frederic, Wisconsin to parents Clarence and Hazel (Rundblade) Krattenmaker.  She grew up in Murdock and graduated from Murdock High School.  After high school Helen attended the Minnesota School of Business for two years.

Sanford “Sandy” Larson, age 82, of Benson, formerly of Willmar

Sanford “Sandy” Larson, 82, of Benson, formerly of Willmar, died Friday morning, November 7, on the family farm near Benson.
Funeral services were Thursday, November 13, at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar.  
Interment was at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar with military honors provided by Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post #167 of Willmar. 
Sanford Dean Larson was born October 26, 1932, in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Sidney and Gunda (Bjorke) Larson.  He grew up and was baptized into the Lutheran faith in Benson and graduated from Benson High in 1950.  He then worked at Erickson’s Furniture in Willmar and on the family farm.  
In 1953, he joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War until his discharge in May 1955.
