Nancy Y. Alsaker

Nancy Yvonne Alsaker, 59, of Benson, Minnesota passed away Sunday morning, January 24, 2021 under hospice care at her home near Benson. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 6, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Rice Hospice.

Nancy Yvonne Alsaker was born March 11, 1961 in Willmar, Minnesota the daughter of Harris “Bill” Willard Jr. and Helen Mae (Anderson) Linder. She was baptized April 9, 1961 at Bethel Lutheran Church by Rev. Robert Pearson and November 7, 1976 she was confirmed at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar.  She grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar Senior High School May 31, 1979.  She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics from the University of Wisconsin - STOUT,  August 5, 1983.

Mark J. Leuthardt

Mark “Boomer” Leuthardt, 57, of Benson, Minnesota, passed away January 19, 2021, at the Carris Health Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, January 29, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ortonville. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Fr. Brian Oestreich will celebrate the Mass and committal will take place at a later date.

Mark James Leuthardt was born July 6, 1963, in Ortonville, Minnesota, to Ralph and Audrey (Carlson) Leuthardt. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ortonville. Mark attended school in Clinton and graduated from Clinton High School with the Class of 1981. After high school, he attended Alexandria Technical College and earned his degree in Sales and Marketing.

David J. Monson

David James Monson passed away very unexpectedly at the age of 33 from a pulmonary embolism early on the morning of Sunday, January 17, 2021. He passed while his wife was at his side, reminding him of how much he was loved.

David lived in Roseville, Minnesota with his wife, Liz Erickson Monson, and their dog, Kentucky. He was born and raised in West Fargo, ND. He graduated from West Fargo High school in 2006 and the University of St. Thomas in 2010.

August 27, 2016, he married the love of his life, Liz.

David was an Eagle Scout. He loved to get his “out-doorphins” through biking, golfing, camping, and enjoying time at the lake. He was most recently employed as a design operations manager with Ameriprise Financial.

Leland ‘Lee’ Swanson

Funeral services for Leland "Lee" Swanson of Benson, formerly of Morris, were held Monday, January 18, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris.  A visitation was Sunday, January 17, 2021 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris.  Rev. Dell Sanderson  officiated and burial was at Summit Cemetery.

James M. Peerboom

James (Jim) M. Peerboom, 88, unexpectedly gained his wings to be with his wife, Donna, peacefully at his home with his oldest daughter Sandy (she was his rock) who has been taking special care of him since our mother passed (October 2, 2017), January 10, 2021. Sandy was his best friend.

A private visitation was held Monday, January 18, 2021 at Beverage-Lyons Family Funeral Home in Rochelle, IL. A private funeral mass followed at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Rochelle, IL. Burial took place at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Rochelle, IL.

James was born to Henry and Margaret Peerboom September 30, 1932 in Danvers, Minnesota. He was the youngest son of eight siblings: Bill, John, Rosie, Marie, Margaret Ann, Annie, Elaine and Gladys.

He married the love of his life, Donna Aeikens, April 28, 1956. They had four children:  Jeff, Steve, Sandy and Donna May.

LeRoy L. Smith

LeRoy “Sonny” Lee Smith, 88, of Benson, Minnesota, died Thursday, December 24, 2020, at Meadow Lane Nursing Home in Benson. A funeral service will be held at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson at a later date. Interment will be in the Benson City Cemetery.

LeRoy Lee Smith, age 88, was born January 4, 1932 in Benson, the son of LeLand and Edna (Heschke) Smith. He grew up and attended school in Benson until the 8th grade. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

LeRoy was united in marriage to Deloris C. Kliche, October 13, 1951, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson. They were united in marriage for over 69 years. LeRoy worked for BNSF until retiring after 38 years of service. Over his life, LeRoy enjoyed many hobbies such as his hobby farm, ice fishing, hunting and playing cards. He also enjoyed spending time and being with his family.

Dennis V. DeHaan

Dennis Verne DeHaan, 75, of Benson, Minnesota, died Thursday, January 7, 2021, at Scandi Haven Village in Benson.  A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at a later date.

Dennis Verne DeHaan was born January 31, 1945, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the son of Verne Olin and Helen Maxine (Wheeler) DeHaan.  He was raised in Sioux Falls, where he graduated from Washington High School, Class of 1963.  After high school, Dennis attended Dakota State University in Madison, South Dakota where he graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business.

 
November 25, 1966, Dennis was united in marriage to Candace Anne Miller in Sioux Falls.  This union was blessed with 44 years together and a son, Jeffrey.

Karen Kay Syverson

Karen Kay Syverson, 76, of Murdock, Minnesota died Saturday, January 9, 2021, under Hospice care at the Swift County-Benson Hospital.  A Private family service will be held at Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg, with a graveside service  held at a later date.

Karen Kay Syverson was born July 30, 1944, in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of Lloyd and Adeline (Sorenson) Paulson. She was baptized and confirmed at West Norway Lake Lutheran Church. She grew up in rural Sunburg, attending country school and high school in Kerkhoven - Sunburg, and earned her Bachelor degree at St. Cloud State.

September 22, 1979, Karen was united in marriage to Kevin Syverson on the home farm. This union was blessed with over 41 years of marriage.

Eugene H. Bakke

Eugene  Herman Bakke “Papa”passed  away January 6 2021 surrounded by his family .

Eugene loved to bowl, fish and drive tractor but most of all he enjoyed time with his kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren! Those that will miss him greatly.

He is survived by his wife, Paulette; daughter April Phillippe (Bruce), son Tony (Tracy) Bakke, daughter Alice Bakke; grandchildren: Julian, Logan, Tanner, Antonia, Christopher, Gabriel, Madison and Charlie; great grandchildren: Kamryn, Kennedy, Jayden, Callie: brother Gary Running (Mary).

A private  family service will be held in the spring!

Thomas Gandsey

Thomas “Tom” Gandsey,  84, of Nevis, died Wednesday, January 6, 2021, in the MN Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.  A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.  

Tom was born April 24, 1936, in Milwaukee, WI to James and Anne (Vercellini) Gandsey.  When Tom’s father passed away at an early age, the family returned to Hibbing, Minnesota.  After high school, Tom enlisted in the United States Navy from October, 1954 to October, 1958.
