Donald William Ascheman

Donald William Ascheman, 89, of Ebony, VA, died Sunday, October 18, 2020 at his residence.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted November 8, 2020 at 2 p.m. at 50 Nottoway Court, Ebony, Va. 23845. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Community Memorial Hospice, P. O. Box 90, South Hill, Va. 23970.

Donald was a Korean Conflict Air Force veteran, a former Computer Engineer for Unisys Inc. and the widower of Bessie C Ascheman.

Thomas Hagen

Thomas M.  Hagen, 76, of Benson, Minnesota passed away Friday afternoon, October 23 at his home in Benson. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, October 27, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson. Visitation continued Wednesday, October 28, from 10-11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment with military honors will be in the Benson City Cemetery.

Thomas Michael Hagen was born at home in Benson, September 6, 1944. He was the son of Albert Gustav and Myrtle Helen (Ellingson) Hagen. He was baptized November 19, 1947 by Pastor M.G. Berg at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Benson. He was confirmed May 25, 1958 by Rev. Val Hergeshemer at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson. He grew up and attended School in Benson.

Burdette M. Kraft, 91, of Benson, passed away on Monday morning, October 12, 2020, at the Gabriel House in Murdock. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Hancock, on Monday, October 19, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. Zniewski Funeral Home of Benson is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Jean Elizabeth Hoffman

Long-time Princeton, MN, resident Jean Hoffman (nee Carruth), age 90, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2020, at the Princeton Caley House. Jean was born on December 1, 1929, in Benson, MN, the first of three children to Clinton and Catherine (Monahan) Carruth.

Jean was married for 63 years to her loving husband, Lou, who passed away in 2017. She is survived by four sons, John (Brenda) of Stillwater, MN, Tom (Krista) of Brainerd, MN, Bill (Rebecca) of Amery, WI, and Jeff of Backus, MN. Jean was extremely proud that her legacy will live on through her nine grandchildren, Matt (Lori), Sarah (Karl), Robert, Quinn, Logan (Erin), Thea (Kevin), Jacob (Diana), Isaac (Elizabeth), and Madelyn. She also has five great-granddaughters and one great-grandson (Brooke, Lily, Amy, Sophia, Layla, and Cal).

Michael R. Wente

Michael (Mike) Roy Wente, 67, of Porter, Minnesota  passed away Friday, October 9, 2020 at his home near Porter.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Lakeside Cemetery, rural Hancock, Minnesota with Rev. Levi Bollerud officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2020 at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby.
Mike was born October 19, 1952 to Eli and Alma (Reu) Wente in Appleton. He was baptized and confirmed at Fairfield Trinity Lutheran, Holloway. He was raised on a farm near Holloway with his three brothers. After high school Mike moved to Hancock and then shortly after that to Morris where he started his floor laying career.

Eugenie L. Boese

Eugenie L. Boese, 95, died at her home in Holloway, Minnesota, Wednesday, September 30, 2020.

Visitation was held Monday, October 5, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holloway. Interment followed the service at the church cemetery.

Eugenie Boese was born May 13, 1925 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter and Olga Kroening Walther. She was baptized  June 1, 1925 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Eagan and was confirmed May 28, 1939 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rabbit Lake. She attended K-5 elementary school in Minneapolis, 5-8 in Iron Hub Country School, graduated from Aitkin High School, and attended teacher’s training in Madison, Minnesota.

Eugenie was united in marriage to Leo V. Boese,  December 30, 1945 in Holloway. They spent their lives together on the family farm north of Holloway where she and her husband raised their five children.

Timothy James McNellis, 82, passed away in his home in Elk River, Minnesota, Tuesday, September 29.

Saturday, October 10, 2020, a visitation will be held at Dare’s Funeral Home, 805 Main St. NW in Elk River from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. A Funeral Service will follow at Church of St. Andrew, 566 4th St. NW in Elk River at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at St. Bridget’s Cemetery in DeGraff, Minnesota.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Minnesota PKU Foundation in honor of his grandson.

Jeanette E. Hawkinson, 98, of Benson, Minn. died Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at Southview Manor.  A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church with Interment in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are with Zniewski Funeral Home.

Daniel David DeToy

Daniel David DeToy, 70 of Sun City, Arizona passed away  Wednesday, September 23, 2020.

Daniel was born May 17, 1950 in Pipestone, Minnesota to Thomas and Freda (Kaduce) DeToy. Dan grew up in Madison and graduated from Madison High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and spent one of his three years of active duty in Vietnam. After returning home, he married the love of his life Gail Louise Borstad,  February 4, 1974 in Madison. They raised two sons, Boe and Jay.

Throughout Dan’s life, he enjoyed running his businesses in Madison, Hermantown and Benson with his wife by his side. He shared his love of cooking with his boys and they helped him at DeToy’s Family Restaurant in Benson.

Dan had a passion for golf and spent many hours on the course with his wife and friends, both in Minnesota and Arizona. They also enjoyed playing cards and socializing with their friends. He had a great pride for his country and loved talking politics.
