Viola “Vi” Mae Grothe, 90, of Benson, Minnesota, died Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck.  Visitation was from 10-11 a.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson.  Interment was in the Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.  

Viola “Vi” Mae Grothe was born May 11, 1928, in Langhei Township, Pope County, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter Valentine and Mabel Christine (Roberts) Jossart.  She was baptized June 1, 1928 by Rev. Melvin Andrews at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church and confirmed in 1943 at Trinity Lutheran Church.  She grew up and attended school in the Benson area.

September 2, 1973, Vi was united in marriage to Walter Henry August Grothe at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson by Rev. Victor Quello.  This union was blessed with 25 years of marriage.

Marlene Ann Skold, 86, of Willmar, Minnesota (formerly of Benson)  died Friday, March 22, 2019, at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.  Visitation was from 1-2 p.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson.  Interment was in the Benson City Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials were preferred to the B.A.C.K. pack Program (Benson Area Cares for Kids) P.O. Box 141 Benson, MN 56215.

Elenore Ramona Larson, 89, of Alexandria, Minnesota, formerly of Benson, died Monday, March 18, 2019, at Knute-Nelson Care Center in Alexandria.  Visitation was from 10-11 a.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Benson.  Interment was in the Benson City Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials were preferred to the Hospice Program at Knute-Nelson Care Center in Alexandria or the Hospice Program in Benson.

SHERMAN D. EDMONDS

Sherman D. Edmonds, 72, of Hancock, Minnesota passed away Feb 3, 2019 at the St. Cloud Hospital.

His memorial service will be held March 30, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. at the Steven's County Senior Center, 603 Oregan Ave. in Morris, Minnesota.

Sherman was born in Wisconsin, April 6, 1946, the son of Karl and Margaret Edmonds. He married Diane Razink, December 13, 1969. They were blessed with 49 plus years of marriage.

Sherman spent most of his working life in semi-trucks driving over the road. When not on the road in the truck, they were out on the road on motorcycle.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; three children: Mary Lynn Norton of Wisconsin, Karl Edmonds of Hancock, Ann (Matt) Rechtzigel of Green Isle; seven grandchildren; brother, Norman (Irma) Edmonds of Florida; sister, Margie Ringer of Wisconsin; many nieces, nephews and friends.

James Darrell Sandstrom, 77, of Benson, Minnesota, died Monday, March 11, 2019, at Carris Health Rice Memorial Hospital.  Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 20, 2019 (today), at Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson.  Interment will be held at a later date in the Benson City Cemetery.  

James Darrell Sandstrom was born June 1, 1941 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Willard Reginald and Margaret Marie (DuVall) Sandstrom.  He was baptized July 14, 1944 by Rev. J. Swedberg and confirmed December 12, 1954 by Rev. Robert Olson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson. He grew up on the farm in Benson Township and graduated from the Benson School system and the Chicago Vocation School for Welding in Minneapolis.

Delaine Lene, 85, of Benson, Minnesota, died Monday, March 4, 2019, at Meadow Lane Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.  Visitation was from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson. Visitation continued from 10-11 a.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 11 a.m., Friday, March 8, 2019, at Our Redeemer’s.  Interment was in the Church Cemetery.  

Delaine Ann Lene was born December 30, 1933 in Gilchrist Township, the daughter of Peder Johan and Dena Marie (Amundson) Pederson.  She was baptized January 14, 1934 by Rev. G.G. Beito in rural Sedan.   Delaine was confirmed June 20, 1948 by Rev. J. Magnus Rohne at Rolling Forks Lutheran Church in rural Pope County. She grew up in the Sedan/Glenwood area and graduated Country School #34 and Glenwood High School.

Duane Edward Nemmers, 84, of Benson, Minnesota, died Thursday, February 21, 2019, at Meadow Lane Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Benson.  Visitation was from 4-7 p.m., with a Rosary at 4:30 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2019, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson.  Visitation continued from 10-11 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2019, at St. Francis Catholic Church.  Interment was in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.  

Duane Edward Nemmers was born November 16, 1934 to Leonard and Emma (Behr) Nemmers in Fulda, Minnesota. He attended St. Gabriel Convent School and graduated from Fulda High School in 1952. Shortly afterward, Duane joined the Navy and served for three years during the Korean War. Upon his return, he attended Minnesota State University-Mankato and earned a teaching degree in Industrial Arts.

Ruthie Stadsvold, 85 of Plymouth, Minnesota passed away at home February 18, 2019.  

Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 25 with visitation 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Gearty-Delmore Plymouth Chapel, 15800 37th Ave. (at Vicksburg Lane).  Interment was in the  Gethsemane Cemetery, New Hope.

Ruthie was born in Glenwood, Minnesota to Chester and Sophie Carter, January 26, 1934. Ruthie enjoyed going to the lake, baseball, football, golf, and spending time with her family.  

She was preceded in death by Don, her husband of 59 years; brothers and sister, Bud, Paul, Calvin, Bill, Dorothy, Lloyd, John and Marvin.

Interment was in the Visitation Catholic Church Cemetery in Danvers. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Rice Hospice.

JoAnn (Josephine Ann) Fennell, currently of Berwick, ME (formerly of Benson, Minnesota) passed away at Gosnell House, a hospice care center, Thursday, February 7, 2019.  

Funeral services will be held at a later time at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Benson.  Burial is planned for the St. Francis Xavier cemetery.  Announcements for visitation and services will be forthcoming.

JoAnn was born to John and Gertrude (Margach) Gilronan, October 22, 1928, in DeGraff, Minnesota.  She graduated from the West Central School of Agriculture in 1946.
