Westrom opposes legislation to ban use of private prisons

District 12 Sen. Torrey Westrom, R-Alexandria, is speaking out against a bill passing through the state House and Senate that would ban the use of privately-owned prisons.

“The Minnesota House recently passed legislation that would prohibit private prison options,” Westrom said in a statement released last week. “This same bill is also being pushed in the Senate under SF 1241. In Appleton, we have Prairie Correctional Facility, a now empty private prison that once brought jobs to the area.
