Verna Pillatzki, 88, of Benson, Minnesota, died Friday evening July 6, 2018 at the Swift County Benson Hospital.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 12, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson, with a 4:30 p.m. rosary and prayer service. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday July 13, at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson. Interment will be in the St. Francis Catholic Church Cemetery.

Verna Lorraine Pillatzki, 88, was born September 21, 1929 on a farm near Kerkhoven, Minnesota, the daughter of Otto and Gladys (Bengtson) Mattson. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church November 2, 1929 and confirmed May, 20, 1945.  August 3, 1948 she was baptized and received her first communion at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson and later confirmed by Father Dorrer,  August 15, 1948. She attended Country school and completed the 8th grade.

September 7, 1948, Verna was united in marriage to Larry Pillatzki at St. Francis Catholic Church by Father Dorrer. Together they were able to share in over 64 years of marriage. This union was blessed with eight children.  They made their home in Benson. She was a home maker for many years and she worked at the Viking Café as a waitress, cleaned rooms at the Paris Hotel, and worked as a CNA at Meadow Lane Health Care Center for 16-1/2 years until she retired due to a heart attack.

Verna loved visiting and spending time with her family and friends.  In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing, cooking, playing bingo and camping.  She also enjoyed her trips to Oklahoma City to see her brother, looking at flowers, going for drives, going to the casino and attending church services. She was called from this life  Friday evening, July 6, 2018, at the Swift County Benson Hospital. She attained the age of 88 years, nine months, and 17 days.

She is survived by her children, Priscilla Iverson of Benson, Daniel Pillatzki of Benson, Pam Markwood (Jim) of Stewart, Tim (Stacy) Pillatzki of Benson, Mark (Colleen) Pillatzki of Benson, Missy Pillatzki of Murdock, and Todd Pillatzki of Benson; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, a brother Vernon Mattson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence, October 23, 2012, her parents Otto and Gladys, a son David, and other aunts, uncles, and relatives.

Zniewski Funeral Home of Benson is assisting the family with the arrangements.
