RoJean Mary O’Malley

September 27, 1941 • July 2, 2018

RoJean Mary O’Malley, 76, of Appleton, Minnesota passed away peacefully surrounded by family  Monday, July 2 at the Appleton Hospital after a valiant fight with cancer.

RoJean was born September 27, 1941, in Benson, Minnesota to Lowell and Marion Todd.  Later on, the family moved to DeGraff, where she graduated from Benson High School in 1959.

RoJean and her husband Jim O’Malley (1933-2009) lived in DeGraff, Minnesota and raised five boys (John Patrick, Patrick James, Michael John, Jimmy Dugan, and Bradley Charles). They moved to Montevideo in 1979, where RoJean worked in several capacities including being a realtor, security at the Appleton Prison, and as dispatch at the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department.

For the past eight years, RoJean happily spent her life with Dave Perry, her significant other, and their dog, Fred. They spent many winters in Roswell, New Mexico, and would return to their home in Appleton in the spring.

RoJean was the matriarch of the O’Malley family, was selfless, and spent a lot of her life caring for and helping others. She was very witty, independent, kind, and could be tough if warranted. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with family at the lake in Wisconsin.

RoJean was known for having a good time with friends and family while enjoying her wine. She was also a woman of strong faith, whose sunny smile and warm hugs will be missed.

RoJean is survived by her sons, John (Janet) of Montevideo, Patrick (Lisa) of Dundas, Michael (Renae) of Rosemount, Jimmy of Montevideo, and Bradley (Shannon) of Lakeville, 12 grandchildren; brother Alton (Sandy) Todd of Mendota Heights; and Dave Perry of Appleton.

In addition to her husband, RoJean was proceeded in death by her parents, stepfather Francis Clark, and stepbrother, James Clark.

Per RoJean’s request, there will be no formal funeral service. A private family service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in DeGraff, Minnesota  Saturday, July 21, followed by a celebration of life party at the DeGraff Liquor Store from 3:00 to 7:00 for everyone to laugh and share stories of RoJean.
