Benson juniors Mariah Ahrndt and Abbie Mitteness both earned All-Conference honors this season for the Braves.

The Benson volleyball team went 8-15-1 during the 2018 season, including a 5-9 mark within the WCC to place fifth overall.  Benson started out 1-5, but then went 4-4-1 over their next nine matches to improve to 5-9-1 overall before going 3-6 the rest of the way.  Included in the 3-6 record to close out the season were three-straight victories as Benson topped ACGC (3-1) and Montevideo (3-1) to close out the regular-season before beating KMS in five games in the Section 5A opener.  

The season came to an end with a 25-16, 25-18, 25-27, 21-25, 15-10 loss to Royalton in the Section 5A quarterfinals at Long Prairie-GE High School.  The Braves were seeded third in their “pod” of Section 5A, while Royalton was one of four top seeds.  “It was a hard-fought match,” Benson coach Shannon Schmidt said.  “I’m disappointed with the loss, but I couldn’t be more incredibly-proud of this team.  They fought tooth-and-mail to the end, and we played some of our best volleyball at the end of the season.”...
