Marie J. Welker, 91, of Willmar, Minnesota died Friday, November 3, 2018 at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.  Her funeral was held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 10 at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar.  Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar.  

Marie Jane Welker was born July 12, 1927, in Appleton, Minnesota, the daughter of Thiedeman and Hattie (Nordby) Barduson.  She grew up in the Appleton area, where she graduated from Appleton High School with the Class of 1945.  

June 8, 1946, Marie was united in marriage to William “Bill” Welker at Big Bend Lutheran Church.  The couple moved to Willmar in 1947.  She was a seamstress and also a manager at JoAnn Fabrics and later a manager at Fabric Warehouse in Willmar, retiring in 1999 after 20 years working in the fabric industry.  Bill and Marie spent their retirement years in Willmar.  Bill passed away April 13, 2018.  Marie later entered Bethesda Grand in Willmar.

Marie was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church, chairing the Vinje Bazaars, taught Sunday school and Tuesday school, chairwoman of the kitchen serving group, member of Circle and was a Vinje quilter.  She was also active with Home Extension Club, Chairperson for the Horticulture Department at the Kandiyohi County Fair, where she was also a judge, Rice Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer, volunteer of the Heart Association, and was active with a garden club and birthday club.

Marie enjoyed sewing, baking, cross-stitch, knitting, and dancing at the senior center.  She was an avid sports fan, always cheering on the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.  Marie’s priority was always: her husband, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always attending their activities and events.  She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, including 40 years with the Monday night coffee group.

Marie is survived by her daughters: Linda (and Bill) Kimberlin of Lakeland, FL, Brenda Sachs (and Warren Matson) of New London, Paula (and Scott) Swansson of Woodbury; eight grandchildren: Chad Sachs (and Sandy King), Amy (and Curry) Sandven, Chris (and Tammi) Swansson, Jay (and Ryan) Swansson, Lane (and Ashley) Swansson, Maggie McCormack (and Chris Mueller), Mindy (and Willie) Fischer; 16 great-grandchildren: Kiara, Malachi and Ariana Fisher, Channing, Easton and Georgiana Sachs, Amelia, Brock, Aubrey Sandven, Deion Sachs, Chance and Kylie Swansson, Mack and Jordy Swansson, Jett and Evelyn Swansson; brother, Bob Barduson; sisters-in-law, Barb Barduson and Mona Welker; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Bill; Marie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Odell, Harry; sisters-in-law: Arlys Barduson, Angie Barduson, Audrey Loen, Lola Chesick, and Barb Welker; brothers-in-law: Keith Welker, Neil Welker, Delmer Loen, John Chesick, and grandson Benjamin William Sachs.

Arrangements were with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.
