Benson football team opens up season with 35-20 loss to BOLD

The Benson football team opened up the 2020 season with a 35-20 loss at home to BOLD, Friday night on Brock Field. The Braves played with the Warriors for most of the game, but two interception returns for touchdowns, along with a long touchdown run to open up the second half, were too much to overcome.
BOLD, which lost in last year’s Class A title game to Blooming Prairie, scored the first three touchdowns to go up 21-0 early in the third quarter, but the Braves would outscore the Warriors 20-14 the rest of the way as Benson’s offense found success in the second half.
The Braves ended the game with an 11-9 advantage in first downs and BOLD had 271 yards of offense on 47 plays compared to 247 yards on 64 offensive plays for Benson. “I thought our defense played well enough for us to win; now, we need our offense (running game) to pick things up,” coach Adam Foslien said. “We need to fire off the ball with a purpose this week. I do credit the fight in this team however. We got behind 21-0 and didn’t fold one bit...”
