Boys tennis tops YME to finish 3-2 in WCC

The Benson boys tennis team had a very busy week of action last week, playing four matches over four days. The Braves opened up last week with a 7-0 shutout of MACCRAY last Monday night before losing two matches at a triangular at Foley last Tuesday to Foley (7-0) and Pine City (6-1). The week ended on a good note as Benson won a couple of tight matches on the way to a 6-1 victory at Yellow Medicine East, Thursday.
Benson closed out the WCC portion of its schedule with a 3-2 record and third place, and the Braves are 5-6 overall heading into their final three regular-season matches.
Benson was set to host Minnewaska, Monday, but that match was pushed back to Monday, May 16 due to rain. The Braves were also set to play at Milbank, SD, Tuesday (yesterday) and compete at Litchfield, Thursday (tomorrow) before playing in the WCC Tournament at Montevideo, Saturday.
The Section 6A Team Tournament is set to begin with quarterfinal matches, Thursday, May 19. Right now, it looks like Foley, Litchfield, and Pine City should earn the top three seeds while Benson, St. Cloud Cathedral, and NLS are battling for the fourth through sixth seeds, and Mora and St. John’s Prep will be the bottom two seeds...
