Heavy fog, rare December rain, but no tornadoes

Swift County saw dense fog dominate the day Dec. 15 with winds gusting to nearly 50 mph from the northwest arriving in the evening.
With the rapid change brought by the advancing low pressure front, the Benson Municipal Airport recorded an extremely low barometric pressure of 28.98. As the storm moved in, it brought 1.33 inches of precipitation – most of it as rain. Just 1 inch of snow fell.
December isn’t supposed to see rain. In the middle of the month, the highs average 24 degrees and the lows 7 degrees. But the high Dec. 15 was 41 with a low of 28.
If the temperature would have been in the 20s when the precipitation came, the area could have seen a foot of snow or more.
