Swift County approves criminal background check policy

To comply with Minnesota state statutes, the Swift County Board of Commissioners at its Sept. 1 meeting adopted an ordinance requiring a background check on those it hires who are in positions that deal with children and vulnerable adults.
This requirement is waived if the “unless the county’s hiring authority concludes that a background investigation is not needed.” Also, in conducting the background checks, the sheriff’s office must get the written consent of an applicant to proceed with it.
