Inez M. Larson

Inez M. Larson, age 95, of Benson, MN passed away peacefully among family Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at her home at Scandi Haven Village in Benson, MN.  Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2021, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson, MN with Visitation one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in the Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Cemetery, Benson.  

Inez Marie Larson was born in Clontarf, Minnesota, February 27, 1926, to Ole and Helena Olson. Inez attended school in Clontarf and Benson, graduating from Benson High School in 1944. She graduated from the Fairview Nursing Program in 1947, earning her degree as a Registered Nurse through the Nurses Cadet Program during World War II. A portion of her training was at the Gillette Children’s Hospital during the Polio epidemic. She shared many stories of the tenacity, toughness and patience of those children.

William "Bill" Cronen

William "Bill" Cronen, age 79, of Benson, passed away Friday, August 6, 2021, in the Swift County Benson Hospital.  Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson.  Visitation will continue from 10-11 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at the church.  Pastor Zane Anderson will officiate.  Burial will be in the Benson City Cemetery.

William Ernest Cronen was born August 9, 1941, in Montevideo, Minnesota, the son of Lloyd and Blanche (Otterholt) Cronen.  He was baptized and confirmed at Jevnaker Lutheran Church, rural Montevideo.  Bill was raised in the Benson area where he attended school and graduated, Class of 1959.  After high school he enrolled in Moorhead State University for two years.  He was also enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard for several years.

Charles Frances Walsh

Charles Frances Walsh, 68, of DeGraff, Minnesota died Saturday, July 31, 2021 at his home.

His visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m., with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 11 at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. www.hafh.org

Charles Frances Walsh was born October 4, 1952, to Walter and Catherine (McCann) Walsh in Benson. He was baptized and later confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Murdock. Chuck attended Murdock High School and graduated in 1971. He furthered his education at Rosemount Technical College where he took classes to become a lineman. He worked as a lineman briefly before starting a new career in construction.

Wilma ‘Jean’ Skare

Wilma “Jean” Skare, 84, of St. Michael, Minnesota passed away July 26, 2021. She is survived by her husband, Roger Skare and many other family and friends.

A memorial service and burial will be held at a later date. Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Grace H. Christenson

Grace H. Christenson, 92, of rural Danvers, Minnesota died Tuesday afternoon, July 27, 2021 at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, Minnesota. Visitation was held Monday, August 2, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Big Bend Lutheran Church in Big Bend, Minnesota, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 p.m. Interment followed the lunch at the Swenoda cemetery in Swenoda Township, Swift County, Minnesota.

Grace H. Christenson was born February 18, 1929, on the family farm north of Montevideo, the daughter of Willie and Della (Christensen) Kittelson. She was baptized and confirmed at Jevnaker Lutheran Church. She grew up on the farm in Mandt Township, and graduated from Milan High School in 1947.

Florence M. Griffin

Florence Marie Griffin died peacefully January 24, 2020 in Glenwood Minnesota.  

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 21, 2021, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Glenwood, followed by the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Please join the family for lunch after the service at Captains Bar and Grill, 28583 N. Lake Shore Drive, Glenwood.

Born in Graceville, Minnesota July 31, 1923 to George and Bernadine Hervert, Florence grew up on a farm in western Minnesota during the Great Depression years. Although she traveled far and wide throughout her life, the farm girl was never far away.

Philip B. Manska

Philip Blaine Manska, 79, of Benson, Minnesota died  Saturday morning, July 24, 2021, at Homestead Place North in Benson.

Visitation was held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 1, at the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson. Visitation continued Monday, August 2, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m.  at St. Mark’s. Interment was in the Benson City Cemetery.

Philip Blaine Manska was born March 18, 1942 in Benson, the son of Clifford and Minnetta Mae (Tiffany) Manska. He grew up in Benson, Clontarf, and Hinckley, Minnesota. He was baptized August 19, 1956 by Rev. O. P. Kuehl at the home of Robert Staton. He was confirmed June 3, 1956 by the Rev. O. P. Kuehl at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kroschel, Minnesota. He attended kindergarten through fourth grade in Clontarf and grades 5 through 7 in country school near Hinckley, grades 8 through 10 at Hinckley High school, then grades 11 through 12 at Benson High School.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 a.m. at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson, Minnesota. At 12:00 p.m. a luncheon will be served in the Fellowship Hall.

Lynn Le Roy Knode

Lynn Le Roy Knode, 79, passed away July 24, 2021, after a short battle with brain cancer.

Lynn was born February 23, 1942, in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Arthur Ray and Hilda Knode. He lived near Benson until age four  when the family moved to Brainerd. The family returned to Benson when Lynn was in 9th grade. He graduated from Benson High in 1960 and from the University of Minnesota in 1966 with a business degree. He married his high school sweetheart Betty in 1964. He served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army from May 1966 to February 1969, stationed mostly in NY City. Lynn and Betty moved to Phoenix, AZ, in 1969. The bulk of Lynn’s career was spent selling residential real estate and doing property management.

Margaret Ellingson

There will be a Celebration of Life for Margaret Ellingson Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Ambush Park in the Lion’s Shelter. It will take place at 12:00 p.m. with a lunch to follow. Everyone is welcome.

   In case of very inclement weather, it will be moved to the Pilgrim Congregational Church basement in Benson.
