Saints softball kicks off season with 2-2 record

After numerous delays and postponements, the KMS softball team finally got onto the field last week. They started with a home doubleheader against Ortonville April 18 where they picked up two blow out wins, 17-2 and 16-0. They also traveled to Morris April 20 to compete in the Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta tournament where they fell to MACA 14-0 and lost a heartbreaker to Sacred Heart 6-5.

The Saints started the season pretty well, scoring six runs in the first half inning they played. KMS added two runs in the third and four more in the fourth to hold a commanding 12-0 advantage.
Ortonville finally got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, but KMS came back quickly with five runs in the top of the fifth to make the final score 17-2.
KMS finished the game with 24 total hits and each player to get an at bat had at least two hits in the game. Abby Holtkamp led the team, going a perfect 4 for 4 with two doubles, four runs, three RBI and two steals. Olivia Noble was 3 for 5 with two doubles, three runs and two steals. Faith Duke finished 3 for 5 with a double, a run and an RBI. Avery Magaard was 3 for 4 with four RBI. Maddie Anderson went 2 for 4 with a double, a triple, two runs and an RBI. Kya Oakes was 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI. Emily Wagner finished 2 for 4 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs. Taylor VanHeuveln was 2 for 4 with two RBI, a run and two steals.
Anderson pitched all five innings and allowed two earned runs off six hits and struck out eight.

The Trojans were fed more of the same medicine in the finale of the doubleheader with KMS. The Saints scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning and the game was nearly over from that point on.
