Ahrndt and Young among leaders of Benson baseball team in 2015

The Benson baseball team closed out the 2015 season with an 8-12 overall record and 4-9 mark within the WCC South.  The team was 3-2, 4-3 and 5-4 at points during the season before going 3-8 in its last 11 games, including a 3-1 loss to Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in the Section 3AA Tourney opener.
The Braves did not score in double figures during its 20 games, but gave up at least 10 runs in five games.  For the season, Benson scored 87 runs, averaging 4.35 runs per game, while the opponents scored 113 runs, averaging 5.65 runs per game.
As a team, Benson batted .238 for the season, but Aaron Ahrndt was the only player who batted over .270.  The team also struck out 74 times and had 73 walks or hit by pitch.  Benson had four games decided by one run, going 2-2 in those games, and also had two games decided by two runs, going 0-2.
The 2015 Benson baseball team, coached by Adam Foslien, will lose five players to graduation --- Aaron Ahrndt, Taner Gimberlin, Brady Young, Logan Flegel, and Jacob Connelly.
Individual Benson baseball stats
Aaron Ahrndt led the Braves in most offensive categories this spring, including a team-high .429 batting average, 24 hits, 11 walks, and 15 stolen bases.  He was also second with 13 runs and 15 RBI.  Ahrndt had two three-hit games and had three multiple-hit games in the first four games and also had three multiple-hit games in the last four games for Benson this season.
The only other players batting over .250 were Andrew Lindahl at .269, Adam Lindahl at .256, and Brett Sulier at .254.  Adam Lindahl had a team-high 66 at-bats this season, and also led the team with 17 runs scored and was second with 17 hits, four doubles, and 12 stolen bases.
Sulier led the team with 17 RBI and five doubles, and also had the team’s only homerrun and tied with Ahrndt with a team-high 11 walks, while Taner Gimberlin was second with 65 at-bats, was third with 12 runs, fourth with 14 hits and fourth with nine stolen bases.
Also batting .200 or higher for Benson this season were Gimberlin (.215), Jacob Connelly (.200), and Danny Lenarz (.200).
