Benson Track has busy week

The Benson-KMS boys and girls track and field teams hosted the Benson Invitational last Tuesday on the local oval.  Morris Area dominated the girls meet by 60 points over runner-up Montevideo (162-102), while the Montevideo boys routed the boys field with 215.5 points, easily beating out runner-up Willmar, which had 84.5 points.
The Benson-KMS boys placed fifth overall, while the girls team was eighth.
The only first for Benson-KMS was by the 3200 meter relay team of Jacob Webster, Josh Bailey, Jon Tostenson, and Sam Rosemeier.
The Benson-KMS track and field teams competed at the NLS Little Crow Invitational, Thursday, which included 12 teams.  Eden Valley-Watkins edged Litchfield by 1.5 points for first place (116.5-115) in the girls meet with Benson-KMS placing sixth with 51 points, while NLS beat Kimball Area for the team title in the boys meet (135.5-119) with Benson-KMS placing eighth with 34 points.
Josh Bailey won the 3200 meter run for BKMS’ only title in the boys meet, while the Benson-KMS girls 800 meter relay team of Carlie Lenz, Alexis Erhardt, Sophie Ascheman, and Sydney Walsh earned the girls’ only title.
This week, the track teams were set to compete at the Ortonville Invitational, Friday.  Coming up is the WCC Meet at Sauk Centre, Thursday, May 14; the sub-section meet in Benson, Thursday, May 21; and the Section 6A Track and Field Meet at Moorhead State University, Thursday, May 28.

The Benson-KMS girls placed sixth of 12 teams at the NLS Invitational, Thursday, while the boys team was eighth.
The Benson-KMS girls placed in the top eight in eight of the 18 events, including the 800 meter relay team of Carlie Lenz, Alexis Erhardt, Sophie Ascheman, and Sydney Walsh, which was first with a time of 1:53.16.
Hannah Ricard was second (34-8) and Kelsey Rajewsky third (33-10) in the shot put, while Walsh was third in the 400 meter dash (1:04.86), Libby Peters was fourth in the 3200 meter run (14:10.86), Ricard was also seventh in the discus (92-4), Courtney Johnson was sixth in the long jump (14-9 1/2), the 1600 meter relay team was third (4:27.69), and the 3200 meter relay was fourth (10:51.56).
•  In the boys meet, Benson-KMS placed in seven of the 18 events, including a first by Josh Bailey in the 3200 meter run (10:42.34).
