Brian Thompson

Brian Thompson, 60, of Kerkhoven, Minnesota died Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Paynesville Area Hospital. There was a visitation for Brian, Saturday, October 23 from 2-5 p.m., at Harvey Anderson Kerkhoven Funeral Home in Kerkhoven. Brian was born November 25, 1960, in Benson, the son of Donald and Lorraine Thompson. When he was in elementary school, the family moved to the Kerkhoven area where he attended Kerkhoven Public Schools, graduating from high school in 1979. He continued his education at Willmar Community College, studying business. Brian became a manager at McDonald’s in St. Cloud and Willmar, before he was able to complete his college degree. After leaving McDonald’s, he began bartending at the Holiday Inn and this is when he met, Stephanie Floen. They were united in marriage July 25, 1987, on the “hottest day of the year” at Kerkhoven Lutheran Church.
From 1989 until the mid-1990’s, Brian and Stephanie owned and operated the Kerkhoven Lounge and Café and following he worked for Ed Davis Business Machines. Since 2008, Brian has worked for Swift County in the IT Department. Brian was honored to have served as the Mayor of Kerkhoven from 2006 – 2016 and was currently serving on the city council.
Surviving are his wife, Stephanie; daughter, Katie Thompson (and her significant other, Mally Metker) of Kerkhoven; son, Randy (and Michael Rudder) Thompson of St. Paul; three grandchildren, Kairi and Sullivan Norbie and Yuna Flickinger. Also surviving are his siblings: Vicki (and Glenn) Otteson of Belgrade, Daniel Thompson of Kerkhoven, Doug (and Vickie) Thompson of Pennock, Timothy Thompson of Kerkhoven, and Lori Erickson of Fergus Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Lorraine.
