County board delays Wold justice center study

With another group of concerned Swift County citizens attending the board of commissioners meeting Tuesday, April 16, a trend is developing that could raise concerns for a proposed justice center’s prospects.
That was a point made by Commissioner Ed Pederson, District 2-north Benson and Benson Township, at last week’s meeting. He pointed out that the plans call for the potential closing of Idaho Avenue along the block south of the courthouse. It would become a parking lot.
In order for that street closure to happen there would have to be a public hearing by the City of Benson and it would have to be approved by the council. “I think that may be a problem in itself,” he said.
Perhaps, Pederson said, the county board should advise its architectural firm that is conducting a $162,000 study of a schematic plan for the proposed justice center that there are going to be more public hearings with crowds speaking against the project. “There is a certain amount of….” Pederson started saying, but then paused.
