Dale Delano Magaard, 87, of Murdock, Minnesota, died at his home under the care of hospice, Thursday afternoon, September 10, 2026. Visitation will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Murdock, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 17, 2026. Visitation will continue Friday, September 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow the funeral mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Murdock. In Lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the CentraCare Hospice.
Dale was born in Coon Rapids, Iowa to Hans and Marie Magaard on March 14, 1939, and peacefully passed away at home Sept 10, 2026. At the age of one year, his family moved to the rural Willmar area. He attended country school, Garfield Elementary, and Willmar High School, graduating in 1958. He was drafted into the Army from 1959-1961, serving his time in Germany. He returned home to dairy and crop farming. He was united in marriage to Rosemary Erickson on May 10, 1969. That year they bought their homestead near Sunburg. Dale milked cows for a few years, then raised black Angus and crop farmed grain and alfalfa until retiring at age 80.
Dale and Rosie were blessed with 57 years of marriage, four children: Robyn, Holly, Brent, and Nathan, 12 grandchildren and two great-grands. Dale was an avid sports fan as well as an athlete himself. Dale loved boxing. He was a featherweight champ in Golden Gloves in his youth. He played summer softball, hit pop-ups and grounders in the farmyard for hours, played old duffer leagues in Texas, and hammered the tennis ball with anyone willing to play. Dale loved coaching his kids in the car after games and later cheering on his grandchildren during all sporting and musical activities. From parades and recitals, to courts, to rinks, to mats, to courses, to fields, to pools, he loved every minute in the stands.
Dale loved to travel. They were able to see Mexico several times, Europe, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Panama Canal, Canary Islands, Spain, Hawaii, Alaska and most US states. Dale was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Murdock and a member of the New London American Legion Post #537.
Dale is survived by his beloved wife Rosie, children: Robyn (Brian) Hatlestad, Holly (Ed) Loiselle, Brent (Kristene) and Nathan Magaard; grandchildren: Chelsea (Hank), Kate (Joey), Lauren (Chris), Ally (Sam), Matthew, Jake (Hannah), Will, Chase and friend Presley, Avery, Emma (Noah), Marc, Elise; two greats: Oslo, Wren Robson; his surviving brothers: Paul (Dorothy), Donnie (Pat), Richard (Wanda); cousin Fred, and sisters-in-law Sherry and Betty. Preceded in death by his parents and in-laws. He also lost three brothers, three brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, his cousins Irene and Chuck, and a favorite sister by choice not birth, Faye.
