Education will be key to accurate county census

If Minnesota loses one of its eight congressional seats due to a low Census count next year, the metropolitan areas of the state will have even greater influence over the political direction of all residents.
If Minnesota loses a congressional seat it loses a vote in the Electoral College, the body that actually casts the ballots for that president based on state election results.
Low Census participation would also lead to less federal and state money coming into Swift County for a host of programs the help out low-income families.
A low count could mean lost economic opportunities for the community as developers consider where to build and expand.
Swift County, and Minnesota are starting an all-out effort to make sure that every resident is counted when the 2020 Census gets underway April 1 next year. It is a much more difficult task than it first appears...
