Fire crews rescue two from burning house

Two residents of a home at 201 9th Street South whose home was on fire escaped through a second story window Sunday night with the help of the Benson Fire Department.
At approximately 10 p.m. Sunday, a resident returning to her home noticed smoke coming from a residence in her neighborhood, the Benson Police Department reported. When they stopped to take a closer look, the saw there was a fire burning inside the house. They immediately called 911 and police officers and firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
While waiting for emergency services to respond, the resident who spotted fire, pounded on the doors and windows of the residence to attempt to rouse the owners of the property, the police report says.  When Officer Noah Marrs arrived on scene, he and the neighbor were able to contact the residents through their second-story window.  
Marrs and the neighbor found a ladder from a nearby residence, but the occupants were unable to exit the home through the window, the report states.  
Benson fire then arrived on scene and were soon joined by firefighters from Clontarf and Danvers.
Using their large ladder truck to extend its l ladder to the second story window, firemen were able to rescue the residents from the burning house.
Both occupants were transported to the CentraCare -Benson Hospital for evaluation.  
Benson, Clontarf and Danvers firefighters remained on the scene and were able to extinguish the flames, the Benson Police report states.
