James Jim “Coly” David Collins
James David “Coly” Collins of Benson, Minnesota, died January 29, 2026, at Glacial Trails Memory Care in Starbuck, Minnesota. He was 77 years old.
There will be a celebration of Coly’s life from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Benson Golf Club. There will be a short service at 12:30 p.m.
Jim was born June 11, 1948, to James and Marie (Kennedy) Collins. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Benson, Minnesota. He attended Benson schools and graduated with the Class of 1966. Jim was drafted into the Army on March 21, 1968, and discharged on March 26, 1970. While in service to his country, Jim served in the Vietnam War from August 20, 1968 until August 15, 1969.
Jim lived his entire life in Benson and worked for the City of Benson in the Wastewater Treatment Plant for 40+ years. He loved his job, but his true loves were his dogs: Chester, Bailey 1, and Bailey Two. No matter the weather, Jim was always out walking his dogs. Other things Jim enjoyed were softball, baseball, and golf. Lots of fun and friends were made.
Jim is survived by his siblings: Mike (Rose) Collins, Steve Collins, Ann (Dennis) Minor, Dan (Rosella) Collins, Jeff Collins, Pat (Caroline) Collins, and Scott (Terri) Collins of Benson; many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents James and Marie Collins, grandparents, brother-in-law Jack Doherty, many aunts and uncles, and his beloved dogs. Memorials will be given to the Benson Humane Society or Benson Golf Club.
Jim will be missed.
