Kevin Dean Quinn was born March 15, 1945, in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Sylvester “Tub” and Mary (Dean) Quinn. He grew up in Benson and attended elementary school at St. Francis Catholic School. He graduated from Benson High School in 1963 and from Moorhead State University in 1968. On May 31, 1969, Kevin married Joan Adkins at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Breckenridge, and they made their home in Benson. They moved to Willmar in 1985 and to Spicer in 2001. For the past year, Kevin resided at Bethesda North Pointe in New London. Kevin served on the board of directors of Shelter House and was a member of the Church of St. Mary in Willmar.
Kevin began his career working at his family’s auto dealership in Benson, eventually taking over ownership from his father and operating the business until 1985. After relocating to Willmar, he became a State Farm Insurance agent, a role he held for 25 years until his retirement in 2009.
A member of the Willmar Car Club, Kevin had a lifelong passion for classic cars—and, in his younger years, a fondness for driving them fast. He was also an enthusiast of boats, motorcycles, and firetrucks. He served on the Benson fire department, rode his Harley-Davidson through the Black Hills of South Dakota, navigated the waters of Lake of the Woods in Canada, and spent countless hours giving friends and family boat rides and pulling his kids and grandkids on tubes and water skis.
A history buff and a proud Irishman, he enjoyed journaling, storytelling, and preserving memories from the past. His children and grandchildren grew up hearing stories about his childhood in Benson, adventures with his pony, Mamie, good times with his buddies on 12th Street South, visiting his grandparents in DeGraff, and summers spent on Lake Minnewaska.
Above all, Kevin treasured time with his family. He especially enjoyed family dinners, summer days on Green Lake, proudly attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and, as they grew older, simply calling and texting them to chat. Kevin will be remembered for his sharp wit, infectious humor, and warm heart.
He is survived by his children: Cara Quinn (and Stefano Follega) of Minneapolis, MN, Mick (and Chloe) Quinn of Willmar, MN, and Ryan Quinn of Miami, FL; six grandchildren: Sean and Luca Follega, and Avery, Hannah, Sophia, and Tommy Quinn; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan, in April 2020; and three sisters: Shannon Hanzel, Michele Mittness, and Brigid Cantagallo.
