Marlys Hoiland, March 11, 1940 • March 20, 2022

Marlys Hoiland, 82, of Benson, Minnesota died Sunday morning March 20, 2022, at her home in Benson. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022, at the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson at 1:00 p.m., followed by visitation from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Burial will be at a later date in the Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church cemetery.
Marlys Beverly Hoiland was born March 11, 1940, in Chippewa Township, Chippewa County, Minnesota, the daughter of Bennie and Mrytle (Johnson) Anderson. She was baptized in 1940 at Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church south of DeGraff where she was also confirmed. Marlys attended District #43 country school north of Montevideo until the 8th grade, then she attended Benson High School and graduated in 1958. Marlys met Roger while they were in high school and they were married August 22, 1958, in Seattle, Washington. She lived in San Diego, California, Minneapolis, Danvers, Holloway area and the Benson area on the farm before she moved to town in 1976 where she continued to live until she passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Sunday morning, March 20, 2022. Marlys attained the age of 82 years and nine days.
She worked as a Taxi driver in Benson, drove school bus for Benson Public School for 32 years, cooked at the Benson Golf Club, and worked several other jobs She was a farmer/ trucker driver wife for 35 years. She was an amazing grandmother and served as a babysitter to many. She enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, needle point, quilting, crocheting, scrap booking, working on family ancestry, had a knack for antiques, traveling, and meeting new friends.
Marlys is survived by her children: Dawn and Donald Pennie of Brandon, Clayton Hoiland of Benson, Blair Hoiland of Willmar, Angie and Randy Dokken of Benson, Dori and Jesse Citterman of Taunton, Faye Hoiland (special friend Jason) of Benson/New Ulm; 13 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren, all within Minnesota; sister Carol Connelly of Sandy, Oregon; sisters-in-law Barb Razink and Phil, Kay and Orleigh Pring of Alexandria; brothers-in-law Butch Pulchaski of Benson, and Dennis Clark of Montevideo; many nieces and nephews, and several other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Bennie and Myrtle, her husband Roger, June 26, 1994, father-in law and mother-in-law Alice and Fred Hoiland, a sister Shirley Clark, brother-in-law Gary Connelly, sister-in-law Ellen Pulchaski; brother and sister-in-law Dave and Diane Hoiland and other relatives.
