Richard Keith Gomer was born April 7, 1949, in Benson, Minnesota to Edwin and Verna (Johnson) Gomer. He grew up in Benson and graduated from Benson High School in 1967. After high school, Richard spent two  years in college and then was drafted into the Army where he was stationed in Germany.  After his discharge, he opted to join the Army Reserves and proudly served his country for 30 years.

September 1, 1979, Richard married the love of his life, Kathryn (Jones) at Lake Hazel Lutheran Church in rural Benson. Together, they had two children, Sara and Andrew. Richard went on to work at UPS for 30 years until his retirement in 2004.

After his retirement, he proudly finished his college degree and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2006.

Richard had a great love for the game of hockey. He played in several intramural hockey leagues over a span of 40 years as a goalie. When not playing in a game of his own, Richard loved spending time with family and friends at St.  Cloud State University Husky Hockey games, where he was a loyal season ticket holder for many years.

Richard enjoyed spending time woodworking and reading.  He was known for always fixing and tinkering with things. There truly wasn't anything he couldn't fix.

He was proud of his Scandinavian heritage and traveled to Europe several times with family members.

His time with extended family and friends at the Gomer Family Cottage on Lake Minnewaska was a highlight of his life.  Above all, Richard had a deep love for his family. His family will remember him for his unwavering patience, cheerfulness and overall ability to light up a room. Blessed be his memory.

Richard is survived by his wife, Kathryn of Maple Grove; two children: Sara and Andrew of Maple Grove; two sisters, Donna Noyes of Starbuck, MN, and Ann Childs of St. Cloud, MN, as well as many nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
