Rita J. Tostenson, 77, of Swift Falls, Minnesota, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 7, 2021, at Glen Oaks Senior Living in New London.

A private family service will be held and followed by interment in the Swift Falls Cemetery.  A celebration of Rita’s life will be held at a later date.

Rita J. Tostenson was born  May 30, 1943, in Swift Falls, the daughter of Rudy and Ione (Wallin) Skare.  Rita grew up in Swift Falls where she was baptized and confirmed at Swift Falls Lutheran Church. Rita attended school in District 13 Swift Falls, and High School in  Benson.  

Rita was united in marriage to Charles Odell Tostenson October 14, 1961 in the Swift Falls Lutheran Church. They were blessed with over 59 years of marriage.

Charles and Rita moved to Benson where she worked at the Swift County Bank and then they moved to Crystal, Minnesota in 1966, where they raised their family. Rita worked at Polaris Ind. for 27 years until her retirement.

In 2013, they built a new home on Camp Lake and moved there in 2014. She spent her last three years at Glen Oaks Nursing Home in New London, until passing peacefully  January 7, 2021. She attained 77 years, seven months, and eight days of age.

Rita had many hobbies in which she loved,  spending time with family at the lake and farm, crocheting, baking, interest in Scandinavian heritage, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren which she adored.

Rita is survived by her husband: Charles Odell Tostenson; children: Jodi (Dennis) Hippen of Shakopee, Tal (Cheryl) Tostenson of Rogers, and Heidi (Rick) Thompson of Champlin; grandchildren:  Jeremy (Sarah) Hippen,  Jessica (Gary) Anderson, Hunter (fiancé: Rachael) Tostenson, Devyn (Michael) Harris, Rikki Thompson and two great grandchildren Azzi and Kora; siblings: Ralph (Darlene) Skare of Britton, SD, Bobi (Bob) Loher of Crystal, Randy (Kim) Skare of Swift Falls, and Rick (Candi) Skare of Benson.
Rita is preceded in death by her parents: Rudy and Ione Skare; sister-in-law Ann Skare; and brother-in-law Lyle Tostenson. Blessed be her memory.
