Ruth G. Anderson

Ruth Genevieve Anderson, 89, died August 22, 2021 at the Minneota Manor, Minneota, Minnesota.
The funeral service for Ruth Anderson of Minneota, (formerly of Benson) will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 3, 2021, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Swift Falls. Interment will follow the service at the Swift Falls Lutheran Cemetery.
Ruth Genevieve Anderson was born May 23, 1932, in Camp Lake Township, Swift County, MN, the daughter of Edward and Olga Lagred. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed later into the Christian faith at Chippewa Lutheran Church in Terrace. Ruth grew up near Swift Falls, and attended school at District 79 east of Swift Falls, and later attended Benson Public School to the eighth grade.
Ruth was united in marriage to Arnold P. Anderson September 14, 1949, by the Rev. Beito. They were blessed with six children and 62 years of marriage. They lived in Benson for seven years, later moving east of Benson to a country home.
Ruth’s interests included: reading, sewing (she made all of her daughters’ wedding dresses and dresses for several of her granddaughters), flower gardening, cooking and baking Scandinavian foods such as lefsa, kringla, klub, and rommegrot for her family. She collected and created a movie video library for her family to check out videos to enjoy. Most of all, she enjoyed visiting with her family.
She taught Sunday School for many years and made the stoles for confirmation students. Ruth was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and attended Ladies Aid and circle prior to August 2015, when she moved to Minneota Manor in Minneota.
Ruth was employed as a waitress, cook, seamstress, and welder. She worked at the A&W and Breen’s Pharmacy as a cook and waitress. She did embroidery at Future Products in Benson. She embroidered jackets for the Benson VFW and bought and embroidered jackets for all of her children and their spouses. Ruth later took a class to learn welding. She worked as a welder at Lorenz Manufacturing in Benson, stating she enjoyed this employment most, as it reminded her of sewing. In later life, she enjoyed playing bingo.
Ruth is survived by her children: Ray (Marge) Anderson of Murdock, Diane Anderson of West Fargo, ND, Paul (Julie) Anderson of New London, Tom (Susan) Anderson of Willmar, Marianne Balk (Duane Nuese) of Montevideo, Annette (Bryan) Gades of Ghent; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Rosella Anderson of Wayzata and Frances Lagred of Benson, brothers-in-law Corvin (Beverly) Anderson of Plymouth and Harold Jackson of Gaylord; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents Edward and Olga Lagred; husband Arnold P. Anderson; brothers Arnold, Edward, Donald, and Waldo Lagred; sister Audrey Jackson; grandson Gabriel Peterson; and son-in-law Mark Balk.
The family thanks all of you who visited and showed kindness by sending gifts and letters to Ruth in the past years, as she truly enjoyed receiving them. A special thank you to the wonderful staff who cared for Ruth while she resided at the Minneota Manor.
