Swift Fishing league has decent success on Long Lake

Long Lake by Cyrus was the lake drawn for week 2 of the Swift Fishing League on Thursday, May 21.  Weather conditions were much more pleasant than the first event.  At the opening horn, it was 65 degrees and sunny, with a 10 mph NW wind.  Water temps ranged from 55 to 58 degrees.  Long Lake has very few if any northerns, so as usual none were caught.  The 12 teams did catch many walleyes, but the majority of them were smaller than the 14” league minimum.  There were 23 walleyes brought to the measuring table that did make the minimum.  Largest walleye for a bonus point was 18.75” caught by Jeff Reuss.  Team White Fins (Jeff Reuss and Steve Benson) took first place with three walleyes from 14” to 18.75”, which gained them 10 points.  Second place with a league limit of 6 fish was team That’s A Keeper (Byron Giese and Jeremy Schauer) at 7 points.  They measured 6 walleyes from 14” to 14.25”.  Third place with 6 points was team Rod Busters (Jeff Erickson and Tom Hollingsworth) who brought in 3 walleyes from 14” to 17.5”.
The season standings after 2 of the 7 league events are tight.  First place is team Googan with 13 points.  In a close second place is team Rod Busters with 12 points, while one point back at a tie for third place with 11 points each are teams, That’s A Keeper and White Fins.
The Swift Fishing League is made up of twelve teams from the Swift County area. The league fishes one event per week for seven weeks. Each team is allowed to measure a combination of six walleyes and northern pike per event. Points are awarded based on the length of the fish, plus one show-up point each week for attending. First, second, and third place are recognized each week. Awards are also given to the season-long winners.
