Benson boys win North Star Classic in Cottonwood

The Braves had two games last week, both in the Lakeview holiday tournament in Cottonwood Dec. 27-28. Benson demolished Ortonville 70-46 in the first game and then took down Lakeview in the championship game 61-57 to finish in first place. Lanadreon Goodwin led the team in scoring in both games, scoring a total of 49 points in two games, helping the Braves win the tournament.

The Braves jumped out early and led the game from tip to buzzer against the Trojans. They were able to cruise through the second half of play to finish with a 24-point win against Ortonville.
Right off the tip, Benson jumped out to a 10-2 advantage and the Trojans could never recover. The Braves continued to stretch the lead throughout the first half of action and entered the locker room with a 44-23 advantage over the Trojans.
The game was more competitive in the second half as the Braves took their foot off the gas a bit. Ortonville did make a push to start the second half and were able to cut the lead down to 51-40. Benson finished the game on a 19-6 run to earn a 24-point victory.
Lanadreon Goodwin led the team in scoring with a big double-double. He finished the game with 25 points, 17 rebounds and a block. Landon Skarsten chipped in with 15 points, two steals and led the team with three assists. Harold Habben also had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Graidy Zimmerman added seven points, three rebounds and two assists. Noah Goossen ended with six points and seven rebounds. Tayte Antolick finished with four points and seven rebounds.
